Description
Abstract paintings, based on the dynamics of colour, marks, shapes and rhythm. I always have several pieces in progress at any time. Sometimes they grow slowly, other times they happen quickly. I work intuitively and often impulsively, not always knowing what I want but following my instinct for what feels interesting or exciting. I work in all sizes and different media - oil, watercolour, paper and collage, often recycling old materials.
Landscape drawing and painting I love to travel and respond to the character and nature of different places, both at home and abroad. I use instinctive expressive markings with a range of pens, crayons and paint. To me, there is no one definite way to approach things and this is reflected in my range of output. It is the experimental nature of working that inspires and drives me forward. I find landscape fascinating, both how it looks and how it feels, and at different times. For me, a landscape painting originates and grows in the same way as a totally abstract work. Both are about markings, daubs and splashes which have to combine and interact.
I live in Colchester, where I have a home studio. I have Degrees in Fine Art from Colchester and Norwich universities. In the past I was a tenant Member of Cuckoo Farm Studios, and am now an Associate Member. Also a member of Colchester Art Society.
